Transportation from Bodrum, one of Turkey's most precious districts, to Karaada, which awaits its visitors with its cave with a sulphurous hot water source, deep blue and clean coves, indispensable beauty diving spots for scuba diving, and lush pine forests that contrast with its name, is made by boats.
Karaada was under the control of the Greeks until it was taken with Bodrum by the Knights of Rhodes at the end of the Middle Ages and was called Arkos. In the 16th century, the island and its surroundings were included in the Ottoman borders by Suleiman the Magnificent. Although the island, whose administration has changed hands frequently throughout history, was left under Italian control in 1919, it was given to Turkey again in 1932 in accordance with international agreements.
Meteor Pit
According to the rumor, meteorites that fell on Karaada thousands of years ago opened a deep hole in the sea and this region, known as the meteor hole today, played a big role in the popularization of Karaada. Although Karaada is a popular stopover point, it can be said that the island still preserves its virginity, since transportation can only be done from the sea. The southern side of Karaada, which is also a favorite of tour boats, is more suitable for accommodation by boat. Due to the winds it receives from the north, the northern slope is not recommended for overnight stays. You can come here and explore the island in peace with your private yacht, when the island is more secluded, and relax by swimming in the clean blue waters.
Sulphurous Water Cave
There is also a cave in Karaada. When you enter this cave, a sulfurous hot water spring welcomes you. The healing water, whose temperature reaches about 30 degrees Celsius, mixes with seawater. The mud around the spring and inside the cave is rubbed on the face and body of the visitors, believing its healing effect. It is rumored that in the past, Cleopatra rubbed this mud on her body and face, and took a beauty bath in the hot water source. When you come to Karaada, you should definitely visit this healing cave with its mud, which is said to be good for various skin diseases. It should be noted that the smell of sulfur may be a bit heavy for those who are not used to it.
Diving Spots
Without any doubt , one of the most enjoyable ways to spice up the summer holidays and perhaps blend them with some action is diving. Points such as Aksona Cape, Delikli Cave, Fener, Poyraz Bay and Kacakci Bay, which are located around Karaada, are frequently preferred by divers. There are suitable routes for both beginners and advanced divers. At these points, you can observe the underwater wildlife and enjoy swimming with the fish, as well as discover a navy water tanker, a coast guard ship and a Dakota plane that were deliberately sunk by the authorities to create an artificial reef.
