Domuz Island and Akvaryum Bay

Akvaryum Bay on Domuz Island, one of the most special of the 12 Islands in Gocek, is simply fascinating...
Gocek, which is actually a neighborhood of Fethiye, is located at the farthest point of Fethiye Bay. Due to its natural beauties and calmness, it is one of the most favorite sailing locations of yachtsmen.
Gocek Island, located right in front of Gocek, has transformed this place into a natural harbor and cove.

Among the factors that make Gocek important for yacht travelers; nature adorned with forests, the clarity of the sea, small coves that are skillfully carved into the land can be counted. But perhaps the most important of all is the series of islands lined up in front of Gocek, starting with Gocek Island and continuing as Yassica Shipyard. These islands are called 12 Islands. The spacing between the islands sometimes drops to 12 meters. Between each island is actually a strait geographically, and these straits offer gems of scenery and beauty for boats sailing on the sea.

Where does the name of Pig Island come from? (Domuz:Pig)

Pig Island is one of the 3 large islands within the 12 Islands. It is not an island that can be stepped on, that is, landed and explored, because it is private property. According to rumors, the island belongs to the Simavi family, the founder of Hurriyet Newspaper. However, anchoring around its name and swimming in its bays are of course free. It is very close to the Kapidag Peninsula located in the west of Domuz Island. It is said that from time to time, wild boars on the Kapidag Peninsula swim to Domuz Island. For this reason, the island began to be called Pig Island. Another name for the island is Prince Island. Because it is said that a prince lived on the island for a while. Of course, this may be an untrue rumor because it is not known which prince lived here. There are also some historical ruins inside the island, you can photograph these ruins while touring around the island by boat. There is a settlement consisting of a few buildings in only one bay of the island, the rest is covered with pine and olive trees. This untouched naturalness surprises people.

The clarity of the sea in Aquarium Bay is breathtaking

It is possible to anchor, swim and dive all around the island. However, on the side of the island facing Gocek, there are two bays named Panco Bay and Akvaryum Bay. Akvaryum Bay has a very special sea. First of all, the sea is really turquoise and crystal clear. There are some historical ruins, which are thought to have remained from the Byzantines, at a depth of 1.5 -2 meters near the shore. These stones must be the reason for this clarity and turquoise color. That's why swimming, diving, or at least snorkeling in Aquarium Bay is a great pleasure.

Transportation to Domuz Island and Akvaryum Bay

Since it is not possible to reach Domuz Island and Akvaryum Bay by land, you can join the 12 Islands tours departing from Gocek, Calislar or Fethiye, or you can rent one of the motor yachts, gulets, sailboats or catamarans at the best prices, weekly, daily and hourly or with accommodation options.
